Le opere di Antonello Santè P. raccontano storie eterne sedimentate da secoli negli strati più profondi della mente “qualcuno direbbe dell’anima”. Storie ancestrali di un tempo in cui l’uomo, e in particolar modo l’abitante delle rive del mare di mezzo, vedeva il mondo con gli occhi degli dei. Tutto a quel tempo era foriero di eventi significativi, presagi, segni. Da poco l’uomo aveva imparato a dominare l’istinto, la bestia, la natura, e lo aveva fatto catturandone l’essenza in immagini, gesti e oggetti rituali, trasfigurandoli in arte. Tale processo di comprensione e assimilazione del mondo è alla base delle sculture di Antonello Santè P. Oggetti ancestrali, residui, scarti, reperti riesumati dai siti archeologici della psiche si appalesano nello spazio contemporaneo come frammenti segnici di un DNA simbolico.La costellazione archetipica di antiche storie riemerge costringendoci a riflettere sulla persistenza di una fitta rete di comunicazione subliminale. È quella rete archetipica che rende a noi così intimamente familiari le sculture di Paladino al punto in cui, sebbene enigmatiche appaiano le relazioni tra gli elementi che la compongono, esse, nel loro insieme, restano intellegibili alla sensibilità. Fragili catalizzatori di tali eventi extramondani sono le giraffe, sorta di animus pre-logico in bilico tra consapevolezza di sé e incoscienza. Esse abitano l’opera, la osservano, ne custodiscono i misteriosi meccanismi, li agiscono. Fungono da antenne sintonizzate sulle frequenze dell’altrove, permettendo una ricezione chiara di lontanissime onde di senso. L’ossimoro delle opere di Antonello Paladino, il cortocircuito che elettrizza la nostra sensibilità, qui si manifesta appieno: descrivere il tempo ed il suo incedere cadenzato, dandone però una rappresentazione statica, sospesa, eterna. È come se le sculture trattenessero il fiato per non fare rumore. ... A volte l’artista-sciamano rievoca l’origine dell’Universo e si attrezza per captarne i segnali con una improbabile antenna parabolica, una lancia diretta verso l’infinito e la terra. Squarcia lo spazio, lo forza con l’acume delle forme. Collaborano le giraffe, tese nel ridondante gesto di allungare i loro colli nella medesima direzione forse captando l’ultimo refolo di un’aria fossile proveniente da chissà quali spazi profondi.

 

Antonello Santè Paladino's works tells of stories from the deepest layer of the human mind “someone may call it "soul". Ancestral stories from times when man, and particurally dweller of the shores of the middle sea, coud look at the world through the eyes of Gods. Everything from those times, foreshadowed significant events, signs and presages. It was not so long before man learnt how to dominatethe instinct, the beast, the nature, and he coped with them by capturing the essence of the images, the gestures and ritual objects by transforming them into art.Such a process of decoding and assimilating of the world is at the basis of Paladino's sculptures. Ancestral objects, left overs, exhumed finds from the archeological sites of the human psyche appear in the contemporary space as fragments of a symbolic DNA.The archetipical constellation of ancient histories rise up, forcing us to reflect upon the persistence of a thick web of sublimal communication. It is actually that archetipical web which makes Paladino's sculptures so familiar to us that, although the relationships among their elements seem to be aenigmatical, they generally remain intelligibile to our sensibility.Giraffes are fragile catalysts of these alien events. They represents a kind of "prelogical animus", in between the selfawareness and the unconscienceness.They inhabit the work, behold it, watch over misterious mecanisms, and act on them.
